Amarachi C. Nwuneli | Climate Justice Activist & Storyteller

My name is Amarachi C. Nwuneli, and I am a climate and social activist who believes in stories’ power to shape our world—to create system change, tell the hidden stories, and ignite change where it’s needed most.

At just 17, Amarachi “Amara” Nwuneli is a Nigerian-American climate justice advocate and storyteller who believes in the transformative power of narrative to drive systemic change. As the founder of Preserve Our Roots, a youth-led NGO and social advocacy movement, she mobilizes young people through workshops, documentaries, and community initiatives—from beach clean-ups to youth activism boot camps—making climate action accessible and culturally relevant.

Amara’s influence extends to global platforms including COP28, The New York Times, The Guardian’s opinion pages, and the White House, where she advocates for climate justice and meaningful youth inclusion in critical conversations. Her award-winning films, including “The Heat of Change” and “Behind Your Screens,” explore the intersections of climate change, corruption, and inequality, demonstrating how storytelling can catalyze action.

Beyond environmental advocacy, Amara is a published author (“For We Are Curious,” 2022), actor (featured in Netflix’s “Coming From Insanity”), and policy advocate developing climate-resilient infrastructure proposals. Her professional experience spans law, media, and publishing, reflecting her commitment to fostering cross-sector collaborations for positive change.

Whether mentoring underprivileged youth, fundraising for displaced communities, or providing relief to victims of climate disasters in underserved areas, Amara bridges creativity with advocacy, cultural awareness with policy development, and passion with tangible action—working to ensure that no voice goes unheard in the fight for a just, sustainable future.
